Baptism is the sacrament that unites us with Jesus Christ and makes us members of God’s family, the church.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, baptism:
- Initiates us into the church
- Assures us that God forgives our sins
- Bestows the promise of God’s grace upon us
- Calls us to a life of Christian service and fulfillment
Through baptism, we become members of God’s family. Each of us is joined as brother or sister with members of the Derry Church congregation and with Christians around the world. The sacrament of Baptism is given only once to a person, but it’s a source of strength throughout life. People of any age are welcome to be baptized, from infants to young people and adults.
A three-week series on the sacrament of baptism is offered by Derry Church pastors and staff in the spring and fall. Anyone who is considering baptism for themselves or a loved one – as well as those who would simply like to know more about the sacrament -- are invited to attend.
