On Sunday mornings beginning on May 19 , you can sign up to get a tube of mini M&Ms. When the tube is empty, fill it with quarters that will provide scholarships for Presbyterian Education Board students . Your generosity will enable more children to receive a quality Christian education. Read more at peb.edu.pk. - Krislund Camp Welcomes New Executive Director
It didn't take Kim Bossé long to realize that Krislund Camp and Conference Center is not your ordinary church camp. “One thing that has struck me is the dedication that people have to this camp,” the camp's new executive director said. “We have a group of volunteers who come out here every single week, there’s between 15 and 25 of them, and they spend the day doing projects around the camp. I’ve worked at a lot of camps and I’ve never seen a group that vital and that passionate about helping to move the camp forward, keeping it open and looking at the future but also balancing the traditions of the past. That’s very unique."
Kim takes over for Gene Joiner, who left Krislund after five years at the camp. To read more about Kim and her goals and expectations for Camp Krislund, click here.
- “Warehoused” Documentary + Discussion
7-9 pm Thursday, June 6 in Room 7
The Mission and Peace Committee invites you to a showing of “Warehoused,” a documentary that provides an intimate look at the plight long-term refugees face in the Dadaab, Kenya refugee camp. The term "warehoused" refers to refugees living in border camps for ten years or more without the right to work, generate income, move freely or choose their place of residence.
This 72-minute documentary follows several people as they try to carve out an existence in a temporary -- now turned permanent -- residence and serves as a microcosm for the often-forgotten millions of refugees living all over the world. “Warehoused” reveals the vital role nations and organizations play in the lives of millions of people in search of home.
In recognition of International Refugee Day on June 20, the Mission and Peace Committee has invited staff from Church World Services (CWS) Lancaster to participate in the showing and share first-hand their experiences living in the Dadaab refugee camp. CWS is a faith-based organization supporting the refugee community with resettlement, employment and immigration legal services. An open forum of questions and answers with the CWS staff follows. Refreshments will be served.
