Special Worship Services Throughout the Year

__________________________________________________________________________________

Ash Wednesday Worship: 7 pm on Ash Wednesday in the Chapel. This service marks the beginning of Lent and includes celebration of the Lord’s Supper and imposition of ashes. In 2011, this service will be held on March 9.

Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday: Worship is held at 8, 9:45 and 11 am in the Sanctuary. No church school classes are held on these special days. The 9:45 am services are especially for families with young children. In 2011, Palm Sunday falls on April 17 and Easter on April 24.

Easter Vigil: The first service of Easter, held on the Saturday evening before Easter Sunday. In 2011, this service will begin outside in the courtyard at 7:30 pm Saturday, April 23. It includes the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper, and is led by participants in the confirmation class, who will be received into membership that night.

Celebrating the Gift of Animals: This annual outdoor worship service will be held outdoors at 6:45 pm Tuesday, August 24, 2010 and celebrates all of God’s creatures and their presence in our lives. The informal 45-minute worship service includes praise songs and hymns in addition to hands-on prayers for the animals and the people with whom they live.

Longest Night Worship: Held in the Chapel on a late December evening. Join us for worship on the longest, darkest night of the year... because sometimes it can be downright hard to face the holidays. A reception is held following the service.

Christmas Eve: Derry Church offers five worship services on Christmas Eve. This year, services on Friday, December 24 will begin with 1 pm worship in the Chapel. Services at 3 pm, 5 pm, 7:30 pm and 10 pm will be held in the Sanctuary. Each service has its own style; for example, the child-friendly 5 pm service features the talents of our children's choirs, the sanctuary choir participates at 7:30 pm, and many of our college-age youth take part in the 10 pm service.
